Various Types of Aggregate & Uses for Constructing a Perfect Building
You will find various types of aggregate like fine and coarse aggregate with various sizes and names like crushed stone, silt, medium sand, coarse sand, fine sand, clay and fine gravel, medium gravel, coarse gravel, pebbles cobbles, and boulders.
Aggregate is created from a crushed form of granite rock, metamorphic rock, and sedimentary rock. All the above rock is used for different purposes for various constructions like interior and exterior house designing, pavement, street, road, and building.
Aggregate Types depend on the size
Different size of aggregate is used various purpose in building construction. There are two types: a) Fine aggregate and b) Coarse aggregate
Fine Aggregate
4.75 mm sieve size passes or sieves through the aggregate is called Fine aggregate. The diameter of crushed or sandstone has to maintain less than 9.5 mm.
Various types of fine aggregate with their size
1. Clay: lesser than 0.002 mm
2. Silt: 0.002 - 0.06 mm
3. Fine sand: 0.06 – 0.25 mm
4. Medium sand: 0.25 – 0.50 mm
5. Coarse sand: 0.50 – 2 mm
6. Stone dust: 0.50 – 5 mm
Sand Uses: Various types of sand uses are Course Sand, medium Sand, fine sand, and stone dust. It uses for PCC work, RCC work, various types of leveling & ground filling, mortar cement formation.
Silt: Various types of Sand, soil, and mud sediments at the sides or bottom of the river are defined as Silt. Silt creates from Quartz & feldspar.
