The latest data from the UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) highlights a significant shift in nicotine consumption patterns, with traditional smoking rates declining and e-cigarette (vaping) usage rising, particularly among younger people.

In the UK, around six million adults aged 18 years and over smoke. The highest prevalence was amongst those aged 25 to 34 years. This compares with 5.1 million adults aged 16 years and over using e-cigarettes. The majority of these vapers are young adults aged 18 to 24. ?

Public Health England has found that although vaping is less harmful than smoking, it is far from risk-free. The effects of smoking are well known: lung disease, cancer, heart disease, and premature aging. But vaping, often marketed as a ‘safer’ alternative, is now under scrutiny for causing respiratory illnesses, increased nicotine dependency, and unknown long-term consequences.

The bottom line? Both smoking and vaping are addictions that rob you of your health, money, and control.

How Can You Escape The Vape?

As a hypnotherapist, I have helped many individuals break free from both vaping and smoking. Many had tried multiple times to quit, only to find themselves lighting up again within a few days. They feel vaping or smoking controls them; a deeply ingrained habit they just can’t shake.?But here’s the truth: these habits are not a necessity, they are a belief system. And beliefs can be changed.

Many people believe that quitting is about willpower, but the real battle is in your subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy helps to rewire your thoughts, change your beliefs, and break the psychological addiction to nicotine. Hypnotherapy works by freeing you from vaping or smoking’s control by changing the way you see it at a subconscious level.

The Power of Hypnotherapy: A Mindset Shift

Hypnotherapy can be used as a deep reinforcement, embedding the decision to remain vape-free / smoke-free and empowering the client with a renewed sense of freedom and control over their life.

The secret to quitting vaping or smoking isn’t about giving something up - it’s about gaining freedom. The best time to quit is now - because every day without vapes or cigarettes is a day of better health, more energy, and true freedom.

The Hypnotherapy Process: Reprogramming Your Mind

My proven approach follows a structured framework, normally over three sessions, encompassing an identity change from vaper / smoker ?to a non-vaper / non-smoker for life.?

The first step is understanding addiction. We begin with an in-depth questionnaire to explore personal motives - whether it's health, financial reasons, or social stigma. Then, we examine habit loops, identifying why people smoke and what triggers it. This leads into breaking associations, helping disconnect smoking from daily routines like morning coffee, work breaks, or driving. To reinforce these changes, we introduce healthier habits and use hypnosis with aversion therapy and future choice visualisation.

Once we have addressed the foundation of the addiction, the next step is eliminating limiting beliefs. Addicts have deeply ingrained fears about quitting - fear of failure, weight gain, or how their social life might change. We work through these fears by reframing vaping and smoking for what they truly are - a harmful illusion.

Hypnosis includes NLP techniques, such as the Swish Method, to help replace the old ‘vaper / smoker identity’ with a new, empowered version. We also highlight the true cost of vaping and smoking on the body and mind and reinforce willpower and control through techniques like Stein’s Clenched Fist Exercise.

The final stage of the process focuses on creating the new identity. This is where the power of intention becomes key, as the ex-smoker / vaper fully steps into life as a non-smoker / non-vaper. By building new neural pathways and strengthening commitment at a subconscious level, we ensure that vaping or smoking is no longer part of the identity.?
