Housing affordability in Vancouver is at “crisis levels,” according to the RBC Housing Affordability Measures study. House prices in Vancouver hit record levels in the first quarter of this year, with nearly 88% of household income needed to buy a home in the city. Comparatively, Toronto residents need 74% of household income to buy a home there, according to the study. Both cities are higher than the Canadian average of about 48% of household income and less than 44% in other major cities like Montreal and Calgary. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Netflix is more popular than cable TV and YouTube, according to a Cowen & Co. survey. Respondents were asked which platforms they used most often to view video content on TV. Netflix was the most used, with 27% of respondents choosing it, followed by 20% for basic cable, 18% for broadcast TV and 11% for YouTube. Among those aged 18-34, Netflix scored 40%. Cable providers are struggling to retain viewers — in the first quarter of 2017, cable networks lost 410,000 subscribers while Netflix added 8.3 million in the fourth quarter of that year. ? Calgary numbers are certainly skewed towards the predominantly corporate white collar oils and gas economy.

This is a misleading article as a detached house is not a typical home in Vancouver.? A typical home is a condo.? However, the common perception that housing is more expensive than it should be in the Lower Mainland is one that I agree with and I place that blame on supply restrictions that the Provincial Government has the power to solve (yeah, it is municipalities, I get that, but the Provincial Government has the power to change how municipalities are governed).
