Vampire Boss

Vampire Boss

One of the person asked me today. How can we manage our boss who is sucking away our blood everyday. Should we quit and join new company or should we fight it out?

Over last 15 years of my corporate career I have worked with more than 25-30 bosses. Very few were amazing, rest all were like Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, & Frankenstein. Please park your wild imaginations for a moment and see how serious this is!

Not having a good boss is one of the most concerning area in our corporate world which triggers highest level of attrition. People work for People and not company. You can choose what company you want to work for but in most cases you cannot choose your boss. Either you live with it or get frustrated and quit. It is a very tricky situation and I will give you solution for that!

Before we deep dive into different types of bosses and how to handle them, let me first get one thing out of way. Most of the bosses are good as a person (few exceptions) but the way they lead or manage a team may not be great. There could be several reasons for that. Either they did not manage a team in the past hence they just know how to be typical demanding, micro managing and nagging boss. Or they had most of their bosses who didn’t know how to lead a team, they only know how to get work done with the help of stick. Never the less it is not an excuse for not leading a team effectively. There are tons of manager and few handful of leaders in today's corporate world

Let us discuss different types of bosses and how to keep yourself safe: (For more fun, use your imagination to see your real boss or ex-boss in that form)

Vampire Boss:

Vampire boss will suck your blood to get what he/she wants even if you turn blue and die due to blood loss…lol!

He will force you to work overtime, you will see lot of frowning when you ask for a leave, will question everything and will push you without explaining logic or requesting you to get something done

This boss is only loyal to the management. This person has been in the company for many years and even has management backing.

Werewolf Boss:

This boss will be nice to you when he or she is in human appearance. Will support you when things are good and when you are delivering numbers. Moment there is additional pressure from the management he or she will turn into a werewolf and will rip you apart. No leave, no more breathers, starts micro managing, losing temper and even shouting/insulting you in front of everyone else.

This boss is usually a loner and mingles only with other like-minded Werewolves!

Zombie Boss:

This boss is nice to you but doesn’t have skill or will to help you. This person will come to work without being motivated, without any direction, has not purpose, always lost but ready to bit you if you go near him or her…hehe. Picture that now! J

Zombie boss usually is out in loose and will often bite his/her co-workers to make them loose their desire to become great. His/Her only goal is to build a Zombie community. He/She will turn others into zombies as well

Frankenstein Boss:

This boss operates like a robot. Will do what management says and just pass on the pressure to you. This boss will never take a stance for you and forget about highlighting your achievements or encouraging you when required.

This boss has not skill and teach you nothing. He/She would hang out with management and follow them everywhere just like how Frankenstein follows Vampires in some movies. If you oppose his/her order, he/she will either choke you with bare hands. Imagine that now :)

How to save yourself from these monster bosses?

1)  Be Your Own Boss:

From the time I started operating as if I am my own boss and starting putting pressure on myself the horrible bosses started to stay at bay. It is like having a holy cross and keeping them away :)

Extraordinary people don't need others to tell them what they should do. They know their own potential and will deliver the best. Put pressure on yourself to become the best. If you are reading this, you have the right mindset. Make sure you keep it tuned that way till you get what you want in life and not just in this job!

2)  Be the best at your Craft:

If you become the master of your space and produce more than anyone else, you become immune from monster bosses. For this you would need to learn, parties and take massive level of action. Whatever you are doing requires the knowledge and you need to learn & practice it just like how pro athletes do!

If you are in sales I have a good news for you. I have built a YouTube channel to help sales people with Sales Skills without any cost. Link - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl3yHjxL4d2FVOUjS1TXzSA

3)  Hang out with winners:

Winners are the people who do not care what is happening around them, have no negativity and only aim to be at the top. Your thoughts are the feed for your actions. What you think is what you do. To have good thoughts you need to handout with positive and go getters.

Anyways the monster bosses feed on negative thoughts. They connect well with negative people or "YES BOSS" people who butter them. Stay away from them :)

Feel free to share your Watsapp number if you would like to be part of Winners Club Group (#Care Nation) which consists of 150+ winners!

4)  Make them your fan:

When you start operating at highest degree of action and when you become obsessed at becoming the best, people around you will start laughing at you, will start making fun of you, will think that you are a creep, will criticize you but if you continue on this path for long enough and you start producing results they will become your fan. You have greatness within you since you were born, do not let that greatness fade away just because you are surrounded by Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies!

Caution – Please do not share this with your boss if you want to stay alive :)

Please share your thoughts on how do you deal with monster bosses. Lot of learning comes from people like you!

Please share this article with others to save their lives!
