Values in Action series: Supporting each other

We make a difference in everything we do by embracing our values. In fact, our values are the foundation of our culture and can impact our experience at work and in the marketplace. In 2023 we spent considerable time consulting across the organisation to validate our existing values and help us to identify and define the core behaviours that demonstrate our values in action. Here at the Bega Group our values aren’t just words but are authentically demonstrated by our 4000+ team members daily irrespective of role or location.?

Notching up one and a half years’ service, Lincoln High, Key Account Manager, invites us to explore his experiences at the Bega Group and talks about which of the values is the most important to him both professionally and personally.?

When I think back what caught my interest to be honest was one of my old housemates who still today works at the Bega Group. He always spoke so highly of the business and when the opportunity came along to join, I couldn't find any reason not to.?

Fast forward to now and I’d describe the culture as pretty strong. I usually find that people are happy in their roles and are given the opportunity to put their best foot forward. We work hard but we celebrate our wins. In three words I’d describe the Bega Group as fast, collaborative and tasty. I hate to sound cliche - but it’s the people that make a business what it is. I'm lucky to be part of an awesome team that works well together, celebrates our wins in style and they're also a group who I can be my candid self around.?

My favourite of the four values is ‘Support each other.’ For me this shows up each day through every individual’s behaviour working in the company. No matter who you are and what you need assistance with, there will be someone making themselves readily available to assist.? I try to demonstrate this value by consciously making myself as approachable and open as possible. I love being able to help others to find answers, solve problems and overcome barriers that they're experiencing. This value really matters to me because whilst it is one of the Bega Group’s values, it is also a personal value for me. I'm sure we've all experienced environments, both in and out of work, where we feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed and feel like we're up the creek without a paddle. Having so many people living and breathing this value really makes our day-to-day lives feel easier, especially given so many hands make light work.?

When I reflect on who in the business in my opinion demonstrates this value really well, it has to be Laura Cromie , whose name comes to mind pretty quickly. Not only has she supported me in beginning new roles and helping me accelerate my career growth, but I also know first-hand that she will always make herself available to people who need support across multiple other teams and departments.??

If you are considering a role here, my suggestion would be to take it. The business works fast and the landscape can change quickly so you will be kept on your toes, while also being given plenty of opportunities to grow.?

I’m fairly certain that we also fly under the radar when it comes to knowledge of the wide variety of our brands. Every time I talk to people about what I do and the brands/products that we bring to consumers, people are always saying "wow, I had no idea that Bega Group did that!"??

I would love to see the Bega Group continue to push the envelope when it comes to providing better, healthier, more nutritious options in the near future. Our purpose “Creating Great Food for a Better Future” is our guiding principle. We've overcome some consumption barriers for consumers with allergies, intolerances and other health-based aspects thanks to Lactose-free options expanding in market, No Sugar Added varieties and now growing our plant-based portfolio. I think the Bega Group is in a good spot to be able to deliver on this purpose.?
