Values in Action with Genesys
At Genesys, we celebrate team members who embody our core values: Go Big, Fly in Formation, and Innovation. We’re proud to spotlight Beni, a Staff Frontend Engineer whose recent achievements showcase commitment, skill, and a drive to make a difference. Here’s a look at Beni’s journey, motivation, and insights on living the Genesys values. ?
Tell us about your background and current role.
I joined Genesys in 2022 as a Senior Frontend Engineer. Now, I’m a Staff Frontend Engineer, working on the Single Customer View - External Contacts project. It’s been a rewarding path, filled with opportunities to grow, innovate, and contribute to meaningful projects. ?
What motivates you in your work? ?
I’m constantly inspired by my talented colleagues who set high standards. Working in an environment where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are valued, keeps me focused and pushes me to deliver my best. ?
Could you share the story behind your recent Water Polo Analytics Application? ?
I’ve always been open to new possibilities, but I didn’t realize that opportunities like this existed within the company outside of Hackathons. This project began when the head coach of the OSC water polo team had a conversation with our VP of Engineering, Attila, who saw an opportunity for Genesys to support the team by developing a software tool to improve their analysis and strategy. The project was announced across various teams as a voluntary initiative, and I immediately wanted to get involved.
The potential impact of this project was particularly exciting because water polo hasn’t had access to this level of analytics before. Our software could enable coaches to analyze detailed stats and data on player and team performance, ultimately helping them make more informed tactical decisions. Knowing we could help shape the sport in this way made it especially meaningful.
We dedicated our free time, as well as our Hackathon hours, to developing the software. It was challenging but deeply rewarding, and by the end of the water polo season, we successfully delivered an MVP version of the application. The experience was incredible, combining my technical skills with my passion for water polo, and creating something that has real potential to elevate the sport. ?
What challenges did you encounter, and how did you overcome them? ?
One challenge was working with team members I hadn’t collaborated with before, so we needed time to establish roles and build rapport. I also had to dive into backend development, learning Java for the first time. Tackling these challenges taught me resilience and adaptability—skills I now bring to other projects. ?
What was the most difficult part of the project?? ?
One of the biggest challenges was that this wasn’t something you could simply learn from a book or an existing guide. For instance, figuring out how to track the ball accurately in real-time was entirely new territory. There were no clear-cut instructions, so we had to rely on our own problem-solving skills testing different approaches and experimenting to find a solution. Working through those unknowns was a valuable learning experience. It made our final achievement even more rewarding. The other big challenge was finding free time to work on it. Balancing this project with my regular responsibilities was demanding, but the shared dedication of our team made it worthwhile. ?
What lessons did you take away from this experience? ?
领英推荐
I learned a lot about the technical side of sports analytics and gained new skills in backend development. Most importantly, I learned the value of stepping out of my comfort zone and collaborating across teams. ?
?Values in Action
Go Big: How did you embody ambitious goals in this project? ?
We worked on this project in our free time, dedicating ourselves to creating a tool that could make a real difference in the sport. It was a big goal, and knowing the potential impact kept us motivated. ?
Fly in Formation: How did teamwork play a role in your success? ?
Collaborating with people across departments was essential. Each team member brought unique strengths, and together we created something that wouldn’t have been possible alone. This experience truly exemplified “Fly in Formation,” as we combined our skills and learned from each other. ?
Innovation: How did you bring creativity into this project? ?
Water polo coaches traditionally have limited analytical tools, so our goal was to go beyond just analyzing clips by adding meaningful metrics. By providing detailed data and the ability to save and visualize clips, we created a tool that could transform how coaches approach strategy. ?
How did our Genesys values guide you throughout this project? Was there a moment when one of our values particularly stood out? ?
Every step of this project aligned with our core values. We set ambitious goals by creating a tool that went beyond traditional metrics, collaborated across departments, and brought innovative ideas into action to make an impact in the sport. For me, “Fly in Formation” was central. Working with colleagues I hadn’t known before and achieving success through our combined efforts was inspiring and a testament to the power of teamwork. ?
?This is one of many fantastic examples of our “Values in Action”. To close out this article, we asked two final questions to Beni.??
What keeps you motivated, and what excites you about the future?? ?
I’m motivated by opportunities to learn new skills and work on projects that make a difference. Seeing ideas develop into valuable tools is incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to continuing to innovate and grow. ?
What are your next goals at Genesys?? ?
I’m excited to deepen my skills in frontend and backend integration, enabling me to contribute to even more cross-functional projects. Innovation will always be at the heart of my work as I seek out new ways to make a meaningful impact. ?
