There is VALUE in Vision

There is VALUE in Vision

“Let’s be bold in the goals we set, let’s be bold in the approaches we take, let’s be bold to reach new heights as individuals and as a club”, said my Toastmasters Club President as he set out a vision for the year ahead.

A vision is a realistic, credible, attractive future for an individual or an organization.

Do you have a vision for your sphere of responsibility at work (team or department or whole organization) or for a social or community organization you're involved in or even for yourself??A picture in your heart and mind of the way you want things to be? A picture of a preferred future that?produces passion?

Where is the VALUE in Vision?

A Vision Creates Value

Vision can create meaning and give us a sense of purpose as we connect to something bigger than?ourselves. We see how we can contribute beyond the?basics and how we connect to a legacy as we?generate value for ourselves and others.

A Vision Inspires Action

A powerful vision pulls in ideas, people and other resources. It creates the energy and boldness to?make something happen. It inspires us to commit, to persist and to give our best. As a vision?resonates with our values and mission it generates energy and has the potential to turn a maintenance?mindset into a growth mindset.

A Vision Enhances Leadership

Developing a vision and living it out are key factors in leadership. A leader who knows the way, goes?the way and shows the way has vision! A clear vision that paints a picture of the future enables our?team to go with us and we all become leaders.

A Vision Requires Useful Steps

For a vision to?become reality it needs to be directed by a series of useful steps: a strategic plan. While there are many different plan templates available on the internet that reach differing degrees of details, most organizations have their own internal strategic planning process and document templates.

A Vision Promotes Excellence

A shared vision promotes a mental measure by which we can evaluate?how we are doing. Deep down?we want to do a good job and to feel effective. When we have a vision we find ourselves pushing?towards excellence because it matters. Why not develop your vision, share it, then allow it to direct your path and find the VALUE in vision

Oh, I love this

A vision sets the framework for difficult decisions especially in moments of disagreement. The simple request of "I'm interested in your thoughts. How do you see this plan/action fitting into our agreed vision?" can be helpful in bringing a discussion back on track.
