The Value of Time & the Culture Triangle

The Value of Time & the Culture Triangle

THINKING YELLOW

Yellow is creative from a mental aspect, the colour of new ideas, helps us to find new ways of doing things. It is the practical thinker, not the dreamer. It is the best colour to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism.

"Don't be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One person gets only a week's value out of a year while another gets a full year's value out of a week." Charles Richardson

What is mission critical for you this week?

What can you do today to be closer to achieiving that?

THE STONECUTTERS BLOCK

When nothing seems to help, I go and look at stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the 100 & First blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.” Jacob Riis

"Good strategy has traditionally been seen as the key to business success. More recently, purpose has become an essential element of doing business. But something else is missing: culture, or the essential elements of how an organization and its employees behave, as well as its governing beliefs and principles. And yet, culture often receives less attention than purpose and strategy." Hubert Joly, Former chairman and CEO of Best Buy

What do successful companies like Microsoft, Netflix, Best Buy, and many others have in common?

According to Hubert Joly, magic happens when purpose, strategy, and culture are tightly connected and aligned, reinforcing each other.

What does it mean for employees?

They must be willing and able to unleash their individual and collective human genius to support the company's purpose and strategy, and this can only happen in a culture perfectly aligned with both.

And what about leaders?

Leadership is less about being the smartest person in the room, and more about creating the environment that will enable the purpose and the strategy to come to life.

In summary, it is imperative to view purpose, strategy, and culture as a triangle: Each angle connects with and shapes the other two, and if one changes, the other two must evolve and adjust to maintain balance and shape, or the triangle breaks and falls apart.

QUESTION TIME

Questioning techniques are important because they can stimulate learning, develop the potential to think, drive clear ideas, stir the imagination, and incentive to act.
