VALUE STREAM MAPPING PROJECT

Customer: One of India’s large Raw Material stores of a Global Auto Component (Tier 1) Supplier. The client is a global automotive giant in component supplies for the Auto industries and having over 100 plants globally.

Requirement: Client wanted WWL Centre Solutions Team to study and propose a VSM solution for the pain points in one of their existing RM STORES in Bangalore.

Team size from WWL Centre: Two solution architects one a certified Industrial engineer and another Mechanical engineer with prowess in six sigma and lean manufacturing practices.

WWL is an ISO and AEO certified organisation, responsible for the in-house operations which includes design and implement systems and procedures for their END to END supply chain activities inside their plant. The case:

The client has two separate manufacturing plants inside their premises. The material used to enter through the respective gate pertaining to the respective plant. There were 2 operators entering the details of material receipt into system and generating GRE in each entry point of the facility. There were approximately 55 receipt entries per day both plants put together.

WWL is working as an extended arm of the manufacturer to manage supply chain activities was given the responsibility of value stream mapping of activities. WWL’s technical value streaming experts suggested moving the gate entry to the main entrance of the facility and only one person does the entry for both facilities. The operator needs to switch the plant code in the system accordingly to the material receipt. After preparing the GRE, he will attach a specific colour token so that the driver will enter to the correct plant. This suggestion saved cost of one manpower which was very much appreciated by the organisation.
