Value of Pay for Performance Program in Question
CMS's Hospital Value-Based Purchasing program did not lead to improved 30-day mortality for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia, according to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health researchers in a report released last week. "Taken together, these findings call into question the effectiveness of the national hospital pay for performance program and whether it is having the desired effect on patient outcomes," the researchers write in BMJ. 8 年I question the standard that was used. In addition to mortality, did they look at morbidity? Improved quality of life and ability to return to work and to ones' role in society, rather than moving into an LTC facility or spending weeks in rehab, impact health care costs dramatically.
