Value of/for Money
The other day the change that I received for buying some medicines from a Chemist had 3, 1 Re coins. Looking at them I suddenly realized how the 1 Re coin’s size has drastically reduced and a thought occurred whether the 1Re coin may disappear over a period of time. This made me feel vulnerable. I also realized that 10, 20, 25, 50ps coins don’t exist. 1,2 and 5ps coins had died much earlier. Our parents would surely recall the annas that were prevalent long time ago. Remember the 1 Re Wada Pav, or Tea even. The sugar candies, one would get in 10, 20 or 50ps, the pepsi cola. The amount we paid for grinding flour of 1 kg grain, Wheat especially. Today we buy Atta directly and we all know what price of 5kg Atta is. One more memory is a 1kg of Srikhand that was as low as Rs. 16/- today more than Rs. 300/- All the above made me realize how less we can buy from a Re or how much more we have to spend to buy something that if compared years ago is so costly now. We have lost track of this value. We have accepted the fact that given the time period gone by prices would so much more now. We have defined this time and cost difference with a catchy word called inflation. Many, long time back didn’t even know this word existed. Today it seems to define our survival.
Given all these sweet memories yet mind painfully catches this huge value differential. This value differential differentiates the line between value for/of money, in our case Re. It helps to realize the value of and its worth So much has surely changed between now and then. Right!!
