Value Of An Idea

A lot of people have a misconception that just by getting an idea is everything that is needed to be successful. In this chapter we will be exploring the value of an idea. Whenever you get a game development or any business-related idea, then your mind gets excited. You start thinking that I should quickly start working over the idea and directly launch a product. But the reality of this situation is not like that. The marketing aspect of the product is very important.?

Before actually working over the product, there comes a phase known as the research phase. Here you tear down your idea and practically check whether it will work in the market or not. By researching, you will learn about the difference between your game in the market, why people will play your game, etc. It may just happen that your idea already exists as a product in the market. Don’t get discouraged by this, in fact if your idea already exists as a product by someone else in the market then it is indeed a good thing. This simply means that your idea is validated and there is demand for similar products in the market.

There is always space for the same idea to exist in different forms to co-exist. The simplest analogy to this is cars. The very first car that was invented was an innovation, however today we have tons of different car companies essentially making the same innovation with slightly different execution.?

Daily, more than 2000 games and apps are launched over various app stores. So among those 2000 games, how your app or game stands out is the most important thing to look after. Your game has to stand out between those 2000 apps or games and between the previous games that are already present in the market.

Now let’s come over to the value of an idea after considering all these aspects. The value of an individual idea is a complete zero. The value of an idea is zero because everyone has an idea. Until and unless the idea is executed, its value is zero.?

On top of it to make things worse there is also this huge stigma of keeping your idea a secret in fear of it getting leaked and someone copying it. In fact, if you do not share your idea with people, you do not get feedback on the same, and thereby it’s value still remains zero. You have to understand one thing is that someone can steal your idea but cannot steal your execution. And that’s where you have to move fast, execute! Now how to increase the value of your idea? The simple way is to share the idea with people. Real people that will play your game. You have to take the reviews and opinions of external people for it. Sometimes the cold hard truth is that you may feel that an idea is amazing but that might not be the market reality. Therefore you do need that feedback loop in order to improve your idea and turn it into execution.

So how would you know that your game will work in the market or not? The only way of knowing it is by trial and error method. Out of 100 ideas that you have, only two to three will work. If the idea is limited to yourself you will get no results; you have to execute on it if you are craving better results. For results, you need to work upon your ideas and have to take feedback from people about your game or app continuously.

The effort it takes to convert an idea into execution is high. You cannot think about an idea in your mind and expect that it will become successful. Turning an idea into a product is not magic. The idea will not shape up into a product without execution. You have to put your efforts into it. A good idea combined with excellent effort will help you develop a perfect product or business.?

You have an idea, ok cool! Everybody has an idea, but you need to work over it and put in the work to turn that idea into a product or a game. Remember, the value of an idea by itself is zero. The value of an idea only increases when it is coupled with execution.
