The value of giving back and supporting CMAA

Working in the?private club industry is a privilege. Unlike hoteliers, our?members are permanent residents. They check-in and never leave, so the challenge to deliver an exceptional experience is never-ending.
?That’s why I am thankful for CMAA. I have been a member for 30 years, and I constantly pick up new ideas and trends to help my club get better. I am still very active, and I encourage you to get involved.
?Strategically, CMAA looks to enhance membership offerings and build an even more inclusive, value-driven, well-functioning organization. Who does not want that??
But what appeals to me is the opportunities CMAA provides us to learn and grow.
?The educational programs are second to none. The range of speakers covers everything from agronomy to marketing. Every conference provides us with the materials to strengthen our team and ideas to enhance our deliverables for the membership. We have picked up fresh ideas for every area of our club, from governance and golf shop apparel to spa and?racquet trends.?
?Then there's the networking.?

It’s great to meet fellow leaders from across the world who, like you,?are focused on member satisfaction.
Creating relationships with industry professionals is?tremendously beneficial.??I think back to when I first started attending?the?CMAA world conference, it was very early in my career, and I would lean on the more seasoned members for advice. Now I am that professional helping the younger members, and I encourage you to do the same. Share your knowledge and help them get over the learning curve.?
I also encourage other GMs to get their teammates involved as CMAA has so much to offer through its professional development programs that prepare you to lead, succeed and create a thriving club environment.?
The Business Management Institute or BMI helps managers get instruction, education, and inspiration at all phases of their careers. I am always honored when asked to participate, and I do so without giving a second thought, knowing that I am giving back to the industry that has given me so much.?
We should be grateful to Jeff Morgan, the President, and CEO of CMAA, Jason Koenigsfeld, the senior VP of professional development, and the amazing board that volunteers their time. They are working hard for?us so let's do our part.?Go to the conferences, share your perspective, approach a member you don’t know, be open-minded and ask questions of your colleagues. I promise you will pick up great ideas and form lifelong friendships.
