Once again I missed a day. I did post or repost I should say. It was not "about" value. It may have added value. Sometimes only others can say for sure. Today I try and catch up. Yet there is something to be said for not getting to post. I had time to read. To comment. Which put me in mind of TIME. We could say it is the ultimate thief of value. It is why I like the hourglass like the one in the picture. Definite end. last grain drops. DONE. Yet that idea, that image can fill us with dread. Roadblocks and setbacks are inevitable. Meaning the project end date will now be in question. No the end date is what it is. The value at the end. Different story. Perhaps we decide we do not now have time for? The answer to that is what robs the value. We will postpone the integration to.... Why? Testing time? Development time?
There is one more element that time brings to the fore. FEAR. Fear of missing the deadline. Fear of cost overrun. FEAR! Why is it never fear of not delivering value? Why are we okay with explaining away the lack of the promised value due to interruptions and lack of time?
I ran out of time yesterday. If it is considered such I did not deliver the full value. I can say I did not do the repost with the thought of "I will do this to meet the post a day" obligation I imposed. The post a day is on Value. The up side is the time to reflect gives us the day 10. Maybe just maybe it has more value than if I had rushed to get a thought out because I had to. Adjustments. Honesty, Integrity, Transparency. More to come...

1 个月Sometimes the greater value add is in not doing something. Yes, we need to weigh the trade offs, the consequences so to speak. But if the greater value add is there, adjusting the schedule and/or the deliverables may be necessary. Deadlines, the self-imposed ones included Richard Koch, sometimes can and should be modified when operational capacity isn't there. The greater value can be in that the adjustment is indeed made in order to do something else of value.
