I’m so excited to share this week’s featured episode with you because it absolutely blew my mind.
Vinnie Potestivo is an Emmy award-winning media and brand advisor who started in talent development in the late 90's and had the opportunity to work for MTV during (what some might consider) its golden age of programming. Vinnie worked on shows like The Osbournes, Pimp My Ride, TRL, Punk’D, Wild ‘n Out, and more.?
With million dollar insights, Vinnie is an expert at helping founder-led companies create, leverage, and monetize their content.?
He’s also the host of his own podcast, aptly titled, I Have a Podcast, where he and guests share creative insights and advice for producing business outcomes that have sustainable, and profitable impacts.
He joined Negotiate Anything to share some of the biggest insights of his career and talk about the role creative collaboration played in some of the most exciting and successful deals he was involved in at MTV, including one with the Renaissance Queen herself, Beyoncé.
What I love about this episode is that despite having involvement with some of the biggest shows and celebrities on MTV at the time, Vinnie’s advice is even more applicable today, especially with so many professionals embarking on a journey of creative entrepreneurship and content generation.
Bonus, almost all of his advice applies to the world of negotiation as well.?
So with so many brilliant insights, where did he start?
With the value of clarity...something I fear is often overlooked in conversations on creativity.
According to Vinnie, if creativity is the act of taking an internal thought and bringing it to life, the idea of clarity exists for the sake of goals.?
If the goals are short-term the wins are short-term.
If the goals are long-term, the wins are long-term.
Either way, before we can begin to explore the idea of a successful creative collaboration, it’s essential that we get clear, and detailed, about where we’d like to go.
To demonstrate this, Vinnie has a really cool story about Nick Cannon, and the role persistence, strategy, and collaboration played in the development of his “wildly” (forgive me) successful show, Wild n’ Out.
Trust me, the gems don’t stop there.
