The value of core values!

The value of core values!

Recently, I watched a video where Steve Jobs discusses the importance of core values for an organization. You can find the interesting video here:

I completely agree, these values form the essence of an organization's DNA and identity, playing a critical role in its success and positioning.

Jobs doesn't only mention Apple, he also highlights other companies, referencing Nike as an example. While Nike produces shoes, their branding doesn't focus on the features of their products. Instead, they emphasize athletes and their achievements, that is where Nike's core value lies, and it’s the key to their impact. By focusing on customers rather than products, Nike has created a strong impression. Today, what we remember is their slogan, “Just Do It,” which, again, is not about the products but about the people behind them. That’s the right focus and the right perspective. A product, even the best one, serves no purpose if it’s not utilized by those who need it.

Similarly, in the video, Jobs describes Apple's computers not just as boxes or screens but as tools for those who dare to think differently and want to change the world. “Think Different” is Apple’s slogan. It’s those who are bold enough, and perhaps a little crazy, to believe they can change the world who actually do. Apple creates computers for these individuals, Jobs explains. What a focus, and what a perspective!

But what are our true core values in our IT work? Are we merely delivering servers, disks, and cables? Or is there something deeper, something more profound that defines what we truly offer? What drives us, beyond the technical gadgets and infrastructure? How can we uncover our true identity and purpose, not just as a team but as an integral part of the society we serve?

No, it’s not just about delivering boxes or assembling equipment. It’s not just about the wires and the hardware. What we offer is something much greater than that.

“We don’t just deliver boxes and technical equipment, we deliver possibilities.”
