The Value of Competition
As a seven year old, I found myself sitting in Ricardo Patrese's Brabham F1 car at Brands Hatch, during the Friday practice of the last-ever Grand Prix held there. That moment ignited a passion for motor racing that has stayed with me throughout my life
The thrill of motor racing lies in pitting yourself against others, pushing your limits, and constantly striving to learn and grow. Every setback is an opportunity to improve, to refine our strategies, and to emerge stronger. In the face of adversity, we find the motivation to push ourselves further. Competition such a powerful force, it accelerates learning and growth, and there is no substitute for hard work.
In business, although it doesn't feel like it for everyone, we face formidable competitors every day. There lies the risk of being detached and complacent. Just as in racing, no stone can be left unturned, continuously striving to outperform our rivals and innovate in our field.
Embracing competition leads to greater success and, importantly, humility. Ambition and confidence are admirable traits, but they must be tempered with respect and a willingness to learn from others.
Thoroughly research your field, respect your competitors, and assemble a team aligned with your mission to race towards success. Remember to have fun along the way, as passion and enjoyment are essential.

Consider your current business situation as a race. If your competitors are ahead, what will you do differently to change the outcome? Embrace the challenge and seize the opportunity to out-manoeuvre your rivals.
Competition brings out the best in us and in business. It drives innovation that elevates the customer experience. In the race of life and business, remember: hard work pays.
It was only a year ago that I found myself at Brands Hatch, above the garage where I sat as a seven year old, taking my racing license test. That's me in the photo, in the Fentimans car, racing at Donington just this week. I came 1st in class and 2nd overall.... actually I didn't, I was demoted to 6th in class and 12th overall thanks to a 30 second penalty for taking a pit stop that was 0.7 seconds too short.
Succeeding, failing, learning and smiling all in a day.

11 个月???? way to go Andrew!! That pit stop penalty might have gotten you this time, but damn it will feel good when you bring it next time and win the whole thing!! It’s always the strive to win versus the win itself that drives growth!! Competition is what drives you, keeps you grounded on the fact that something or someone is there to take your place so you keep accelerating to your goals even stronger! Great reminder (and analogy) Andrew! Still need to see you on the track someday in the Cayman!
