The value of believing in Mexico: a call to support entrepreneurs
How many times have we heard about the challenges faced by companies from their first years until their consolidation. For a Mexican company, the lack of capital and confidence to acquire its services are key factors to fall into a worrying statistic. Every year 100,000 new companies are created, of which only 1 out of 10 survive in a month.?
This high mortality rate among small Mexican businesses constitutes a threat to job creation and consequently, to the economy. Although it is not only about the economic effect, there is also the other side: the closure of the only source of income for many Mexican families.?
For small businesses and ventures, to achieve success is not easy. From their early stages they need a unique value proposition that allows them to compete with large companies and win consumers’ preference. In a global market, this competition is crucial. While large companies benefit from their reputation and have the capacity to offer more competitive prices, small companies are pressured to get a position in the market.?
There is a preference towards foreign companies or products as more reliable options. The lack of support for entrepreneurs ranges from the consumer who prefers a recognized brand over something made in Mexico to the news and media that point out the lack of security and uncertainty to invest in the country.?
Proof of this is the development of other entrepreneurial ecosystems such as Argentina and Brazil, many years before Mexico. Although there were many attempts to position the country as an innovation hub, it was not until the recognition of KAVAK as a unicorn in 2021 that we saw a boom.?

So, why support this ecosystem??
The significance of companies in the economy as a detonator of growth, value acquisition and development of their own region should be the main reasons to support them. However, as an entrepreneur, I recognize the barrier and competition that we face to consolidate ourselves.?
As Mexicans, we have to support entrepreneurs not only as a boost to the local economy and generation of employment, but also as an alternative to promote the quality of our traditions and national pride. It’s our job to change ideas, believe in us as a society and as a platform for innovation and growth. Here I list some reasons to consider supporting Mexicans:?
Mexican talent and entrepreneurial spirit are qualities to be proud of and that differentiate us from other regions. The optimism and creativity we show to propose solutions to difficulties is part of our national identity.?
