Value based recruitment – what is it and why do we do it?
At First City Care Group we follow a value-based recruitment process when recruiting across our teams. As well as ensuring a fair and consistent approach to all applicants, this process, alongside our excellent in-house training, allows us to welcome those without industry experience onboard.
We can train someone to use the equipment, educate them regarding current legislation, but we can’t teach what’s inside - passion and values.
Value-based recruitment means we are looking at the person applying and what values are important to them, rather than just the work experience or education they hold. This approach enables our team to explore personal experiences supporting family and friends and voluntary work, as well as industry experience.
So what values are we looking for when selecting candidates you ask? We want to know our colleagues are:

Caring | Honest | Reliable | Compassionate | Trustworthy
A successful candidate doesn’t need to have experience working as a care worker, our in-house training starts with a four-day induction course at our head office, before starting any shifts. The induction covers the initial required elements a care worker needs to know, including what person-centred support looks like, various legislation, safeguarding, a practical session with various equipment used within the industry, basic life support and more. Further training is then provided in real life situations, through shadow shifts with an experienced colleague before commencing solo or double up shifts. Training and development is ongoing throughout a person’s employment through in-house courses as well as the opportunities to gain qualifications in health and social care.
While we encourage those without experience but the desire to help others to apply, we also welcome applications from those with experience in health and social care. Due to our different departments supporting people of all ages, with a variety of requirements, we are able to work with successful applicants to find the right role for them, whether this is within our domiciliary team, as part of the hubs, supported living and children’s services or joining our unique team in our intermediate and reablement services.
If you share our values and are looking to start or continue your career in healthcare please contact the team on 01793 313044, email [email protected] or visit our jobs page.
