I attended a business networking meeting, and one of the speakers spoke about growth both as a business and as a person. She talked about the importance of surrounding yourself with people that edify you.

Arithmetics or mathematics was not my strength during my school days. Thanks to one patient teacher who helped me through. What baffled me the most and still does till today is the behaviour of the number zero and number one in the multiplication process. If numbers were humans, they would have loved to hate zero and one. But why hate those two close neighbours. The reason being any number that is multiplied by zero results in a zero. Zero brings down numbers to nothing irrespective of their size. Some people in this world are like the number zero. If you associate with them no matter how valuable you are, you will be reduced to nothing. It does not matter how hard you work; you get diminishing returns.

How about one?

Any number multiplied by one remains unchanged no matter how big it is. Some people in life are like the number one. No matter what they do in your life, you will stay the same. You don't grow, and you do not improve, but you remain the same. Staying the same means, you are actually deteriorating. The change should always be positive; stagnation is negative.

What kind of person are you? and what kind of persons do you associate with?

May God separate you and me from everyone carrying the spirit of zero and one. May God also help us grow and be more significant than one so that when we touch others lives, we will add value.
