Valuable lessons from the decade

It's hard to believe that another decade is coming to an end. What a great time to reflect on the past ten years and lessons learned.
- Make the most of each moment - there is a lesson to be learned in everything we do - take the time to celebrate the happy moments with family and friends and learn from the storms.
- Don't waste time in worry - no matter how prepared you are - none of us knows what challenges the new year brings. Worrying about tomorrow impacts your ability to enjoy today and unfortunately it doesn't prepare you for major life challenges like destructive weather or untimely fatal illness.
- Don't let a bad event create a bad day - there is no such thing as perfection. Learn to pick yourself, dust yourself off and find a reason to smile. Resiliency is key to success.
- Listen - not just to words but look in people's eyes to understand. Sometimes the best support is just being there - whatever there means to the person you're with. And don't forget the best way to learn is to ask questions and listen to the answers.....versus use the time in-between to figure out what you're going to say next.
- Never stop dreaming - dream big and think outside the box. Don't be afraid to ask yourself "what if" and move outside your comfort zone.
- The best gift is relationships - spend quality time with your friends and family and don't forget to constantly expand as well as diversify your circle. The greatest lessons are those learned in life.....take the time to learn from people of all ages, backgrounds....and never forget to "give" more than you "receive".
- Set the bar high - your never too old to try something new or to accomplish something incredible. Remove the obstacles and prove to yourself you've got the grit to climb the highest mountain.
- Be a lifelong learner - open your mind to learn new things, explore new places...….read, travel, listen to new music, taste unique foods.
- One size or style doesn't fit all - find the time to get to understand your customers, partners, friends, family members - only than can you curate experiences that meet their expectations - and don't assume what they like this season won't change next.
- You can change the world - lead by example - don't wait for others to pick up a piece of trash - feed the homeless - visit the sick -give to charity - rebuild a home - reskill a displaced worker - problem solve creative solutions and always be kind.
- Take accountability - do what you say and say what you do. And realize everyone makes mistakes....so if you do....own up to it and learn from it.
What would you add to my list? Let's ensure each of us has the foundation to make the coming decade the best yet!!!
Love this list of valuable lessons … I would add one more that will lead to an overall state of positivity and it’s Know Your Value. When mentoring colleagues, I often find a lack of confidence and a hesitation to jump into a new challenge. By understanding your value, making any appropriate tweaks to fill gaps, confidence will radiate from realization of your capabilities and potential.
