The goal is to personalize treatment by identifying genetic variations that impact how a person’s body metabolizes a particular medication. Tids n’ Bits with Linda Riddell

Try this at home?: Standing up, raise your arms from your sides to over your head and down again like you are a bird flying. Now, raise your arms to shoulder level out to the sides; move your arms from the sides to the front like you are wiping off a shelf. Got that? Now try doing the bird flying with one arm and the shelf wipe with the other at the same time. Having trouble??Your brain -- specifically your basal ganglia -- stops you from this kind of multi-tasking. (BTW, multi-tasking is a myth. Your brain just moves back and forth between things.)

Females were considered too erratic for science. Lest you think that it’s only human females who are discriminated against for having periods, take comfort that female mice also suffered from this. They were considered too complicated and unreliable for research purposes.?Current Biology?reports that spontaneous behavior in mice is not related to female hormones. In fact, males had more unpredictable behavior than females on or off their period. Chalk one up for womankind!

Finding more breast cancer,?thanks to Artificial Intelligence?. AI has now surpassed the skill of a human and can spot cancers that a human radiologist would miss. Since the rate of women dying of breast cancer has not changed in at least 30 years – despite mammograms becoming more widely available – finding cancers would not seem to be the crucial step. We may just be creating more “cancer” patients, and not saving any lives by seeing more cancer.
