While I secretly believe VALENTINE'S ??was invented by florists (which would be a genius business idea), I have nothing against people showing some extra love and appreciation to their loved ones on command (potentially to compensate for recent or long-term neglect). I say kiss, love, and cook away. It can only do good.
HOWEVER!
While everyone is focusing their loving efforts on beloved second half (if you don't have one, don't despair. I have good news for you), who gets little to none attention is the most important person in life:
THEMSELVES!
Not even on Valentines!?
Your relationship with you is the most important thing relationship in your life. Simply because you're always there and it's often a filter to everything else. When your relationship with you sucks, your life likely sucks, and your relationships with others often suck.
Most people say: "I'm my worst critic."
Oh, it goes deeper. Many people have extremely unhealthy or even abusive relationship with themselves. They perceive themselves as unworthy of most things beyond oxygen. It's constant nagging, reprimanding, and little appreciation. Eugh!
DO THIS HEALTH CHECK ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOURSELF
Q: If you spoke to your best friends or your partner the way you talk to yourself. How long would they put up with it?
If you think "They'd be gone in no time", it probably gives you an idea of your self-love health. The problem is, you cannot run away from yourself. So you take it and you take it!
So, on this Valentines (and ever after)...
Take a moment and acknowledge yourself for everything you've gone through in life, all the little and big successes and good deeds. Take a moment and appreciate who you are, that you're on your journey, and that it's ok to not be perfect. Give yourself a little hug, do a little dance, make a little love, whatever works for you.
Because when you improve your relationship with yourself, your life will improve exponentially.
If you're single, GREAT! You can focus all your loving effort on yourself today!
NOTE: It doesn't mean you should stop working on your self-improvement. Nope! It's just going to be so much more fun and you'll grow much faster when you will be your best buddy along the way.
Hope that helps.
