This Valentine's Day is a time to Spotlight The Secret Admirers of Our Success.

Every organization has unsung heroes whose diligent work propels us toward success. Much like the concept of a secret admirer, their contributions often go unnoticed, yet they are integral to our achievements. This Valentine's Day, let's take a moment to shine a light on these behind-the-scenes champions, celebrating the love and dedication they pour into their work.

The Foundations of Success

Every successful project, campaign, or event that a company celebrates is like an iceberg. What the world sees—the product launch, the seamless event, the groundbreaking innovation—is just the tip, gleaming under the spotlight. Yet, under the surface lies the vast bulk of the iceberg, representing the countless hours of support, troubleshooting, and groundwork laid by those in less visible roles.?(Yes, while typing this paragraph, I was humming to 'My Heart Will Go On' I am only human.)

?Celebrating the Unsung Departments: from the consulting work I have done, these are the five most commonly overlooked departments.

?1. IT and Tech Support: In today's digital age, virtually every aspect of a company's operations is underpinned by technology. The IT department works tirelessly to ensure that systems run smoothly, data is secure, and technological glitches are resolved swiftly, often working late into the night to install updates or fix issues, ensuring minimal disruption to the workday.

?2. Administrative Professionals: Administrative staff are the gears that keep the organizational machine running. They manage schedules, handle communications, and perform countless tasks that enable the rest of the company to focus on their core responsibilities. Their meticulous attention to detail and organizational prowess often go unnoticed but are essential to daily operations.?

?3. Human Resources: The HR department plays a critical role in shaping the workplace environment and culture. They work behind the scenes to resolve conflicts, support employee well-being, and ensure the organization adheres to labor laws and regulations. Their efforts create a harmonious and productive work environment, which is crucial for the company's success.?

?4. Facilities and Maintenance: The comfort and safety of the workplace environment are paramount, and it's the facilities and maintenance team that ensures this. From keeping the workspace clean and tidy to maintaining essential services and ensuring health and safety standards, their work is fundamental to the day-to-day functioning of the company.?

?5. Finance and Accounting: Managing the company's finances, from payroll to budgeting and financial planning, is no small feat. The finance and accounting department ensures that bills are paid, finances are tracked, and the company remains financially healthy, enabling it to invest in growth and innovation.?

Recognizing these contributions is about more than just saying "thank you." It's about understanding and appreciating the complexity and importance of these roles.

Here are a few ways to show appreciation:

? Spotlight Stories: Share stories of behind-the-scenes work in company newsletters or meetings, highlighting specific instances where these contributions made a significant impact.

? Peer Recognition Programs: Implement a peer-to-peer recognition program that allows employees to acknowledge their colleagues' contributions, fostering a culture of appreciation and respect.

? Personalized Thank-Yous: Personal notes of thanks from leadership can make employees feel seen and valued, reinforcing their importance to the organization.

This Valentine's Day, let's remember to appreciate not just our personal loved ones, but also the secret admirers of our success—the dedicated individuals whose work behind the scenes helps to elevate the entire company. Their contributions are the foundation upon which our achievements are built, and it's time we gave them the recognition they deserve.
