Valencia - Update after DANA storm

Valencia - Update after DANA storm

As emergency teams, firefighters, civil protection, the army, and thousands of volunteers continue to provide humanitarian aid and clear debris in the worst-hit areas of the province of Valencia, the situation appears to be slowly and slightly improving. However, the logistical situation around the city of Valencia and its port is far from normal and the main problems remain with the mobility of people and goods.

Valencia port: operations have resumed without major disruptions.

Container depots: Most of them are open, with exception of the ones in the most affected area.

Road transport: Heavy vehicles are allowed to circulate only at night (between 22:00 to 07:00) on all main roads, and only transportation of essential goods is exempt from the restrictions. The authorities are providing alternative routes to the port, but this involves a significant increase in distances and associated costs. Furthermore, and because of the many trucks and drivers affected, operational capacity has been significantly reduced and there continue to be major difficulties in road transport operations.

Rail transport: The Valencia - Madrid rail corridor will not be operational for a few weeks.

Logistics centres and warehouses: We have received reports that some are already starting to operate, although the difficulties in getting employees and trucks to them mean that they are not yet able to resume regular activity.

We will continue to monitor the situation in the area and keep you informed of any new developments, in the meantime we are doing our best to reschedule those shipments that were pending prior to the impact of DANA, our operations team will keep you updated on the status of these.

Many thanks to all of you for your support, and many thanks to our customers for their patience during this difficult time.
