Last month my mother (Queen B, aged 108 1/2) lost her longtime bridge partner at 111 years of age. They had played bridge almost weekly for years until COVID caused their senior center to shut down. If you can get through Newsday's paywall you can read he amazing supercentenarian's obituary ( https://www.newsday.com/long-island/obituaries/obituary-henrietta-dobin-111-years-old-kuhg9grg) but better still you can see Henrietta (above) being celebrated on her 110th birthday here (with Queen B doing the voiceover and seen in the background):?https://abc7ny.com/henrietta-dobin-110-years-old-long-island-super-centenarian/10962530/.
People like my mother and Henrietta are both an inspiration and a benchmark for longevity - however slim the odds of reaching 100 let alone 108 or 111. Their lifespans make extreme longevity feel real, especially for their family and friends. These centenarians are the inspiration for Your 100 Year Life, helping families manage and celebrate the lives of their ageing loved ones. Longevity is a blessing but it also comes with a lot of complexity for families. Professional care is just one element. For families there’s a whole lot more, and that’s where we can help.
