Self-awareness is the first step in our long journey towards aligning to our true north. It is like a mirror that reflects our true selves. It enables us to see and understand our thoughts, emotions and behaviours with clarity and objectivity. By understanding our self-image, we gain insight into our patterns, beliefs and values that shape our lives. Self-awareness allows us to identify areas for improvement, recognize self-limiting beliefs, and align our actions with our authentic selves. It is the foundation upon which we can build a life that aligns with our true desires and aspirations, and along the way our true purpose. Our true self-image.

However, self-awareness alone is not enough. It is only when we accept our true self-image and actively translate that awareness into action that we can honestly progress towards our desired destination.

Acceptance: Embracing Our True Self-Image

Acceptance means acknowledging and embracing who we are, both our strengths and our imperfections or limitations. It is about embracing our unique qualities and recognizing that they contribute to our individuality and journey. By accepting ourselves, we free ourselves from the burden of comparison and judgment, allowing us to focus on personal growth and self-improvement.

Moving Into Action:

Accepting our self-image is the catalyst that propels us into action. Without action, self-awareness and acceptance remain stagnant concepts, leading to a sense of stagnation and dissatisfaction. Taking action is the bridge that connects our self-image to our desired outcomes. It is through action that we transform our aspirations into reality and make progress towards our true north.

Breaking Free from the Status Quo:

Remaining stagnant in the status quo is detrimental to our personal growth and fulfilment. It is a state of inertia that keeps us trapped in our comfort zone but with unfulfilling patterns. By accepting our self-image and embracing the need for change, we break free from the grip of the status quo. When we step out of our comfort zones, we challenge ourselves and open ourselves up to new possibilities.

The Danger of Inaction:

Choosing inaction and staying within the confines of the status quo is worse than being completely oblivious to our self-image. It robs us of the opportunity to grow, evolve and experience a more fulfilling life. Inaction breeds regret, frustration and a constant longing for something more. It is only through action that we can break free from this cycle and embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal transformation.

The struggle is real. In my personal experience, while I took the initial steps quickly and decisively, I lost momentum somewhere along the way. However, I found that pushing myself harder and seeking positive reinforcement was the way forward.

These are some of the things that helped me regain the lost momentum.

Steps Towards Action:

  • Set Clear Intentions: Clarify your goals and aspirations based on your true self-image. Set clear intentions and always visualize the outcomes you desire.
  • Break It Down: Break your goals into manageable and actionable smaller steps. This will make them more approachable and less overwhelming.
  • Hold Yourself Accountable: Share your intentions and progress with a trusted friend, a coach or maintain a journal. Accountability helps keep you motivated and committed to taking maybe small, but consistent action.
  • Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Adopt a mindset that sees challenges as opportunities for learning and growth. Embrace a belief in your ability to learn, adapt and overcome obstacles.
  • Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate every small step forward. Every milestone. This reinforces positive momentum and boosts your confidence.
