Vaccine in the Veins

Vaccine in the Veins

Many (many) years ago when I started advising clients, I cold-called the employees at a little firm that's been in the news recently...Pfizer

Their office (remember offices) had a corporate store - this is long enough ago that they still had consumer products (later sold to J+J) - that was stocked. Whenever I could, I'd pick up a ton of stuff - I think there's still some Listerine strips lying around the house somewhere...I think the store has been closed for years, but based on the people I met then and the culture of hard work and professionalism I saw, I am not surprised that they are right at the forefront of bringing a safe, effective vaccine to market.

The scale and pace of innovation that it took to get to this point, with Pfizer, Moderna, and others making progress, is hard to fathom. In the future it will be looked at in the same way landing on the moon is looked at now - a miracle of human ingenuity and scientific breakthrough. How many breakthroughs this will lead to in the health space is unknown; we are learning a lot about how incentives and support that began decades ago are playing out in the here and now.

Also, Operation Warp Speed, and Dolly Parton -

The vaccine alone will not end this pandemic instantly but the impact will be hugely helpful to get things going again. It's definitely reassured many industries and investors but it will take some time, especially as the case count, hospitalizations, and deaths rise. Analysts at JP Morgan are saying there will be a drop of 1% in GDP in the 1st quarter, followed by second quarter growth at 4.5% followed by a robust 6.5% in the third quarter.

It's hard to keep the financial house in order and focused on the long term though when even well-prepared hospitals and health care systems are overwhelmed. It's especially hard to keep within guidelines as they keep changing and when people see their leadership act say one thing and do another. It must be nice to have some leadership with consistent messaging, communication, and behavior.

The next six months are going to continue to be rough, but if the JP Morgan analysts are correct, there is hope ahead. :) Thanks for sharing, Ariel.

Ariel Serber Wise words, I am grateful for the people who never stopped doing their best to keep everything moving forward. I was working on apps for Pfizer, Bayer, Roche on monitoring clinical trials. ??????

Always a fan of your way of tying complex issues to relatable storytelling; I suppose time will tell how well this thing works!
