The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Pretoria has a job opening for a Green Hydrogen Economic Policy Officer, with focus on Namibia. The position is based in Pretoria, start date February 15th, 2024.
We are looking for a professional with a proven track record in the field of renewable energy, preferably including Green Hydrogen. He or she should have an open mind, be driven by values such as diversity, equality and inclusiveness and be a true team player.
The Embassy in Pretoria works as One Team with the Consulate General in Cape Town. An important field of our joint cooperation with southern African countries is the just energy transition and the development of the green hydrogen economy.
Key Duties and responsibilities
·???????? Build and maintain a strategic network with key stakeholders in the Green Hydrogen sector in Namibia including policy-makers, influencers, knowledge institutes and private and public sector representatives;
·???????? Identify and develop Green Hydrogen projects in Namibia including the assessment and processing of project applications, and monitoring and evaluation;
·???????? Identify, attend, initiate and execute events in collaboration with the Embassy and relevant external partners;
·???????? Identify opportunities to involve the Dutch private sector in cocreating solutions for a green economy and just energy transition in Namibia;
·???????? Ensure cohesion and integration with the Embassy’s activities in the field of Green Hydrogen ?in South Africa and report regularly to the management team of the Embassy.
Skills and competencies
Professional
·???????? Knowledge of the green hydrogen sector and the just energy transition in Namibia including an understanding of business opportunities and the political economy (specifically with regards to its green hydrogen? / just energy transition strategies); ?
·???????? Experience in business development and project oversight;
·???????? Good analytical and research skills, including the ability to gather, evaluate and integrate relevant information from a variety of sources, to assess their impact and to provide recommendations to enhance the Netherlands’ economic and energy diplomacy in Namibia;
·???????? Proven sensitivity to political and social environments and ability to work accordingly.
·???????? The ability to take initiative and work transparently (by inviting views and contributions from others in her/his team) and proactively share knowledge;
·???????? Ability to contribute to broader economic and political policy initiatives and projects through the Embassy’s thematic policy approach;
·???????? A relevant professional network in Namibia is an added advantage.

Qualifications and skills
Education
·???????? An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental science, political science, international relations, social sciences, economics, business or a related field. Proven focus on energy topics is an added advantage.
Experience, knowledge and skills
·???????? A minimum of two years working experience in energy-related activities, international relations, business development or related area.
·???????? Knowledge of the environmental and socio-economic landscape in Namibia and interest in international developments as well as the Netherlands and European energy policies;
·???????? Strong networking skills, the ability to identify key stakeholders and build and maintain strong relationships;
Language requirements
·???????? Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of further languages is an advantage.

?Contract of employment
Fixed term contract for one year with the option to extend for one year. Two months’ probation period.
Indication of salary (scale 9): ZAR 56.415 – 65.818 gross, depending on experience and qualifications, 37,5 hours/week.
