VACANCY - NON-PAID TRUSTEE - TREASURER POSITION

Are you passionate about social change? Are you a creative, analytical, financial manager with audit experience? Would you like to contribute to the promotion of social justice and spatial justice?

Ndifuna Ukwazi is an activist organisation and law centre that challenges the reproduction of spatial inequality and advocates for equitable access to well-located land and affordable housing. Through our campaigns, we combine community organising, research, advocacy and legal support to advance urban land justice and fuel systemic change. We work closely with tenants, occupiers, communities and social movements in Cape Town to support and amplify their struggles for land and housing rights and build a more just and equal city, including our core partner, Reclaim the City (a social movement of residents living and working in Cape Town’s inner city and surrounding areas).

POSITION: Board Treasurer (Unpaid)

Ndifuna Ukwazi’s Board plays a critical role in our work, providing advice on Ndifuna Ukwazi’s strategy, stakeholder relations, fundraising and objectives in a manner that promotes Ndifuna Ukwazi's reputation, values and its theory of change. To this end, we wish to strengthen and grow our governance structure by adding a Treasurer to the board of trustees.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your financial expertise and help steer the financial direction of Ndifuna Ukwazi.?

Key responsibilities for the position will include:

Collaborate with the Head of Operations and Finance on budgeting and financial planning.

Monitor the organisation's financial health and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, including mitigating any financial risks where needed.?

Provide regular financial updates to the Board of Trustees.

Advice and guide on financial investment and fundraising initiatives for the organisation.

Through the Head of Operations and Finance, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERTISE?

Suitably qualified candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise are encouraged to apply:

Academic credentials in the areas of financial management.

Proven experience in financial management or accounting.

Financial management and audit experience.

Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial board members.

Fundraising, donor engagement and management expertise and experience.

Human resource management and expertise.

Governance expertise.

Risk management and risk monitoring for organisations.

Requirements:

Degree-level education (with a substantial understanding of accounting and financial management). Chartered Accountant or equivalent certification preferred.

Candidates must have a clear understanding of the social activism and the fiduciary duties of a treasurer.

Familiarity with the political, economic and socio-legal context of NU’s work will be an added advantage.

A demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Commitment to the mission and values of Ndifuna Ukwazi.
