V-Label Monthly Catch-Up: February 2023
?? Fish Free February with V-Label
We're celebrating #FishFreeFebruary this year with Unfished's PlantZalmon Sashimi from? Verdino Green Foods ,? Revo Foods ' Smoked Salmon, 雀巢 's Vuna and Vrimp, and last but not least BettaFish 's TU-NAH Pizza! ??
And that is for a reason:
According to market research by the Plant-Based Foods Association, 79% of millennials already consume plant-based meats, and plant-based seafood producers expect the same popularity for fish-less products.
Why such sudden demand? Apart from ethics (did you know dolphins get high recreationally and shrimps are super smart?), in the post-Seaspiracy era, the awareness of how unsustainable the status quo of traditional meat production is, definitely played a role.?
We talked about the indicators that the traditional fish sector is bound to change and highlighted the challenges vegan fish producers face in our latest whitepaper. Barcelona Wine Week
It’s still mostly unknown how wine, an alcoholic beverage, can be unsuitable for vegans. Well, during the production process, wine is filtered through substances called fining agents. While traditionally these agents are animal-derived, innovations in the plant-based industry are unstoppable. ??
Barcelona Wine Week proved that the industry has been sprinting away from these animal ingredients and we were ecstatic to see that newer wines often use innovative pea or potato based fining agents. Many of these next generation wines are also getting certified with the V-Label, so that you can spot them at a glance! ??
