V-Day In The Current Scenario

Mid of February, 14th February is observed as `Valentine's Day each year. It is observed internationally. Basant Panchami , observed as Indian Valentine's Day in West Bengal was observed ten days back. The day is gaining popularity each year.

Valentine's Day has been chosen as the day of declaring love for each other by couples. Loving?someone means everything to the one who loves . It is not the same as liking someone. It means that one is simply happy being with the other person. Love denotes deeper, stronger emotions, while like is more of a tender feeling towards the special someone.

It is believed that Valentine's Day has come from ancient Rome, when the feast of Lupercalia was celebrated from 13 February to 15 February. It is from here Valentine's Day got its name. Emperor Claudius II had ordered St Valentine, a priest who helped Christian couples to get married, to be executed on 14th February, 496 AD. People of Rome acknowledged the acts of St Valentine and dedicated the day to him.

Marriage between a male and female leads to families. The families create society. Families chose suitors for marriages. Gradually, boys and girls started having companionship. Mixing between boys and girls started . The led to the introduction of the concept of dating which really?began at the 20th century. Prior to the late early 1900s, courtship was a much more private, unemotional affair. It led to change from the early years of the 20th century. Couples started going out together in public and unsupervised. The practice has caught up with the urban society in India. Small towns and villages are yet to catch up with it.

Earlier a marriage meant choice of the bride and groom by the families. Then a day for ashwaribad was fixed by the groom's family. Marriage date was fixed thereafter for the the bride and bridegroom on a day. Marriage registration was made mandatory by passing law by the Government and it continues.All marriages therefore are required to be registered now in the country.

To-day, boys and girls have started choosing their life partner themselves. Dating and courtship have become common. It is gradually being accepted in the society. The period taken to develop a bonding between a boy and girl could be a long wait. To seal the bonding that develops which is said to be love, people came to accept a day for such purpose and Valentine's Day was chosen for it. Valentine Day seals the love between a boy and girl. It is unofficial unlike marriage which is to be backed by registration which is compulsory.

Valentine Day has become a day for brisk business. Shops, restaurant, hotels, special stores show case their products to add to the volume of business. The trend has taken a turn . As the ocassion is becoming older marketeers have tried to add products each year.

The young generation is gradually coming to like the day . Celebrations are increasing in leaps and bounds. In the days ahead Valentine's Day will mean more to society. The day has already been added with globalisation irrespective of religion caste and creed.
