UX discoveries are essential in getting design initiatives for product development. Using proper user research, the team will have a good understanding of the problem that is being solved. This helps in making sure that the team members have a good understanding of business objectives and thus the desired outcomes.
UX research (on a budget)
Irrespective of how unique and new you think your product is, it will inevitably compete with some other product that's already existing on the market. If not the core concept, few features might already be there in other products. Evaluate the user experience of the competitor products so that you can try to refine your product problem statement.
Distribute questions and surveys to people. Preferably people who are not your friends and family (simply because they might tell you to pursue the idea just to support/encourage you).
Make sure not to talk about the product at all. Because if you do so, you will already be suggesting them to use a product that you might develop. But our aim is to find out if users will have a reason to use our product and if the problem statement that we have is one for them.
In the process, we should not only validate but also in-validate our product idea so that we can decide which features to implement and which ones we should not implement.
It is important to avoid bias and leading questions
55% visitors spend less than 15sec on a website. Getting someone's attention in the first few seconds is very important. Participants are given 5seconds to view the design/prototype of the product. This is important in knowing their first impression based on which we can redesign the product UI and improvise the UX.
Understanding what a common man feels is really important In knowing what we should work on. Do this iteratively to find if we can get a customer from a user.
At TeQuip, we've followed these techniques and it has helped us in getting product experience insights. The above methods don't really need you to spend any money on them. At least in the initial stages.
