Summer vacations are almost upon us and that means also time to do more reading than in day to day situations when people are stuck in a routine. If you are someone who likes reading and want to learn about cryptocurrencies beyond the hype and the rumours being passed around, I have prepared a list of books that you should consider picking up. The list below comprises of books about the history of money, fiat money and its impact on civilisations, Austrian economics, decentralised law, decentralised government and more.
The Bitcoin Standard by Dr. Saifedean Ammous
The Bitcoin standard is a book by Saifedean Ammous that argues that Bitcoin is a superior form of money to fiat currencies. Ammous argues that Bitcoin is scarce, durable, portable, divisible, and fungible, all of which are qualities that make it a good store of value and medium of exchange. He also argues that Bitcoin is decentralized, which makes it immune to government interference.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part, "The History of Money," discusses the history of money from the barter system to fiat currencies. The second part, "The Economics of Bitcoin," discusses the economics of Bitcoin, including its supply and demand, its mining process, and its security. The third part, "The Future of Bitcoin," discusses the future of Bitcoin, including its potential to replace fiat currencies and its impact on the global economy.
"Soft money does not make societies richer. It makes them poorer by giving their labor in return for something easy to produce."
The Bitcoin Standard is a well-written and informative book that provides a comprehensive overview of Bitcoin and its potential impact on the world. The book is a must-read for anyone who is interested in learning more about Bitcoin or the future of money.
The Fiat Standard by Dr. Saifedean Ammous
The Fiat Standard is another book by Saifedean Ammous which argues that the fiat monetary system is inherently inflationary because governments can always print more money. This leads to a decrease in the value of money over time, which makes it difficult for people to save and invest. It also leads to higher prices, which makes it harder for people to afford goods and services.
Ammous argues that Bitcoin is a better alternative because it is a scarce asset that is not subject to inflation. Bitcoin is also decentralized, which means that it is not controlled by any government or central bank. This makes it a more reliable store of value and a more efficient medium of exchange.
Ammous believes that the fiat monetary system is unsustainable and that it will eventually collapse. He argues that Bitcoin is the best alternative to fiat money and that it has the potential to usher in a new era of economic prosperity.
Principles of Economics by Dr. Saifedean Ammous
Principles of Economics is an advanced university textbook that provides a concise and straightforward examination of key economic principles.
This book takes an unwavering Austrian approach, presenting significant economic concepts and subjects in a well-organized sequence. It aims to equip readers with a comprehensive understanding of economics at both an individual and societal level, while also emphasizing the broad implications of economics as a subject. The initial section of the book introduces fundamental economic concepts and the Austrian method, while the subsequent section delves into the economic actions undertaken by individuals to optimize resources.
The Infinite Machine: How an Army of Crypto-hackers Is Building the Next Internet with Ethereum by Camila Russo
The Infinite Machine is a non-fiction work written by Camila Russo. It chronicles the rise and evolution of Ethereum, one of the most significant blockchain and cryptocurrency platforms in the world. The book explores the story behind Ethereum's creation, its charismatic founder Vitalik Buterin, and the decentralized revolution it sparked. It delves into the technology, ideology, and community that propelled Ethereum's development and adoption, as well as its impact on the broader financial and technological landscape. "The Infinite Machine" provides insights into the challenges, triumphs, and controversies surrounding Ethereum, offering a captivating account of its journey to redefine the possibilities of blockchain technology and the decentralized internet.
“My intention is that anyone, anywhere, will be able to pick this up, without prior knowledge of blockchain technology, and be captivated by a fascinating story: an idealistic hero, his band of misfits, and the challenges they face to make their incredibly ambitious dream a reality. By the final pages, I hope you will have learned more about this dream, about how this army of hackers is building an alternative to the way the world works right now, that is, concentrated in the hands of a few powerful entities. They’re seeking to put that power into the hands of individuals, so that people can have greater control over the things they own, from assets to data, and more freedom to use those things in the ways they choose—that’s what I meant when I said cryptocurrencies are about revolution.”
The Monero Standard by Michael Fitzgerald
The Monero Standard?is an upcoming book about the cryptocurrency Monero and about how we can use money to fundamentally revolutionize societies incentive structures, the challenges we face in society today & how we overcome them to build a long lasting platform for freedom and prosperity.
The book can only by purchased via cryptocurrency. I pre-ordered it for 0.13 Monero but you can use other major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, Litecoin or Dogecoin to buy it here .

The Internet of Money volumes 1, 2, 3, by Andreas M. Antonopoulos
"The Internet of Money" is a book series written by Andreas M. Antonopoulos one of my lecturers at University of Nicosia and a well-known figure in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space. The series consists of three volumes, each addressing different aspects of money, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain technology. Here's a brief overview of each volume:
“This isn’t about nation-states anymore. This isn’t about who adopts bitcoin first or who adopts cryptocurrencies first, because the internet is adopting cryptocurrencies, and the internet is the world’s largest economy. It is the first transnational economy, and it needs a transnational currency.”
The series aims to educate readers about the transformative potential of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, offering insights from a renowned expert in the field.
Move Over Brokers Here Comes The Blockchain by Keir Finlow-Bates
Mover over Brokers here comes the blockchain is a book by Keir Finblow Bates and it argues that blockchain could make traditional brokers obsolete by providing a more efficient and secure way to trade assets. Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that allows for secure, transparent, and tamper-proof transactions. This makes it ideal for trading assets, as it eliminates the need for a third party to facilitate transactions.
The book also argues that blockchain could make it easier for consumers to access financial services. Blockchain could be used to create decentralized exchanges that allow consumers to trade assets directly with each other, without the need for a broker. This could make financial services more affordable and accessible to consumers.
Dispute Revolution the Kleros handbook of Decentralised Justice by the Kleros Team
Dispute Revolution the Kleros handbook of Decentralised Justice is a book written by the Kleros team. It explains how Kleros, a decentralized dispute resolution platform, can be used to resolve disputes in a fair, impartial, and efficient way.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part provides an overview of Kleros and its key features. The second part discusses the different types of disputes that can be resolved using Kleros. The third part provides a step-by-step guide on how to use Kleros to resolve a dispute.
Kleros is a decentralized dispute resolution platform that uses blockchain technology to create a fair and impartial system for resolving disputes. The platform is made up of three main components: jurors, arbitrators, and stakes.
Jurors are users who have staked their reputation on the platform. They are randomly selected to participate in disputes and make rulings. Arbitrators are experts in the field of law who are appointed by the parties involved in a dispute to oversee the process and ensure that the ruling is fair. Stakes are used to incentivize jurors to make fair rulings and to punish arbitrators who make biased rulings.
Kleros can be used to resolve a wide variety of disputes, including:
Softwar: A Novel Theory on Power Projection and the National Strategic Significance of Bitcoin by Jason Lowery
Softwar: A Novel Theory on Power Projection and the National Strategic Significance of Bitcoin is a book by Jason Lowery that argues that Bitcoin is a new form of power projection that will have a profound impact on national security, cyber security, and possibly even the base-layer architecture of the internet.
Lowery, an active-duty US Space Force astronautical engineer and US National Defense Fellow at MIT, argues that Bitcoin is a "softwar" technology, which he defines as "a technology that enables the projection of power without the use of force." He argues that Bitcoin is a softwar technology because it allows users to project power across borders and through cyberspace without the need for a central authority.
Lowery also argues that Bitcoin's softwar capabilities will have a profound impact on cyber security. He argues that Bitcoin could be used to create a decentralized network that is immune to attack from governments or other powerful entities. He also argues that Bitcoin could be used to create a new form of digital identity that is more secure than traditional forms of identification.
The Network State by Balaji S.
The Network State is a book by Balaji Srinivasan that argues that the nation-state is an outdated form of political organization and that the future of governance will be based on networks.
Srinivasan, a former CTO of Coinbase and General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, argues that the nation-state is no longer able to effectively address the challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, economic inequality, and cyberwarfare. He argues that networks, which are characterized by decentralization, flexibility, and resilience, are better suited to address these challenges.
Srinivasan proposes a new form of political organization called the "network state". A network state would be a decentralized and federated polity that is composed of a network of smaller, self-governing communities. These communities would be connected by a common set of values and principles, but they would be free to govern themselves in their own way.
“If a startup begins by identifying an economic problem in today’s market and presenting a technologically-informed solution to that problem in the form of a new company, a startup society begins by identifying a moral issue in today’s culture and presenting a historically-informed solution to that issue in the form of a new society.”
Srinivasan argues that the network state is the best way to address the challenges of the 21st century. He argues that networks are more efficient, more resilient, and more democratic than nation-states. He also argues that networks are better suited to the globalized and interconnected world of the 21st century.
“The twist is that our version is a reverse diaspora: a community that forms first on the internet, builds a culture online, and only then comes together in-person to build dwellings and structures. In a sense, you can think of each physical outpost of this digital community as a cloud embassy, similar to the grassroots Bitcoin embassies that have arisen around the world to help people better understand Bitcoin.”
The Network State is a provocative and thought-provoking book. It is a must-read for anyone who is interested in the future of governance.
