Dexon Technology PLC Launches Drone UTM (Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement) Inspection Service Completing Inaugural Inspection in the Gulf of Thailand

Dexon Technology PLC is excited to announce the launch of its new UTM drone inspection fleet. Successfully completing the system’s first project on an offshore platform in the Gulf of Thailand. Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) is an advanced non-destructive testing method used to measure the metal thickness of ship hulls, piping, and structural steel in order to access corrosion, erosion, and other wall thickness anomalies. The service allows inspection teams to perform UTM inspections via drone without the need for extensive rope access teams working at height.

One of the major advantages of this new technology is the ability to conduct inspections rapidly and without disruption to operations. Many inspections can be performed while the asset is still online.?In addition, inspection teams receive real-time inspection data ensuring accurate inspection results.?Traditionally, large rope access teams and extensive preparation were required for inspections. However, Dexon’s UTM drone inspections eliminate the need for such manpower and scaffolding. This significantly saves time and costs during the pre-inspection period and the inspection itself.

completed the system’s inaugural inspection in the Gulf of Thailand, showcasing the effectiveness of the UTM drone’s capabilities and proving its effectiveness in the field. The inspection, which lasted a week, included ultrasonic thickness measurements of pressure vessels and the offshore oil platform’s riser structure. By utilizing the UTM drone, Dexon’s inspection team, comprising of a pilot, co-pilot, and an ASNT level 2 ultrasonic inspection engineer, efficiently collected real-time UTM measurements from the rig’s topside.

These advanced inspection capabilities were developed in-house through collaboration between Dexon’s inspection engineer team, UAV drone team, and research and development department. The technology allows inspections to be performed according to various international certifications and standards, specifically tailored to the requirements of the oil and gas industry. It is particularly useful for inspecting hard-to-access structures.

Dexon Technology PLC continues to push the boundaries of inspection technology, providing innovative solutions for the oil and gas industry. The UTM drone inspection capabilities offer a game-changing approach, enabling efficient and reliable inspections while reducing costs and improving overall safety. Dexon remains committed to delivering exceptional inspection services with a focus on precision, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
