Work from home + Work at home, these corona times have made us realize the importance of household help and the freedom to go out which always went unnoticed. Delivery services have come as a boon in these unprecedented times by bringing daily essentials. With food delivery giants like Swiggy and Zomato have taken on the delivery of essentials to households across the country. Going hyperlocal in these times is sure to bring a wave of transformation in how India buys its essentials aka groceries, daily utility items and more. As more and more households are now relying on purchasing via apps (lockdown! What else can one do), there is soon going to be a behavioral change.

Dark stores which are located away from the high population density and shopping areas, this translates into lower walk-ins. The evolving business model of utility delivery is set to uplift these businesses as well. The right step was taken at the right time, ventures like Britannia with Dunzo and ITC with Zomato speaks loud and clear of the Logistical Excellency that the giants have got. With flourishing staff and good hold in the market, these ventures are now solving the grave problem of obtaining essentials during the lockdown. Dunzo too has taken this opportunity to establish its roots. The app has partnered with Britannia for the supply of essentials

Lesson Learnt?

1.      A business can never be jotted down on an excel sheet in a table with a limited number of columns. As you go ahead with daily business operations, skills are developed in various domains. What is required is to identify the new developments as one progresses.

2.      Time is of the essence. You must be on the lookout for opportunities at all times.

What’s more to come?

As the market gets competitive, more and more FMCGs will be seeking partnership with delivery services. This will create a competition like never before, one can expect discounts, cashback and more. Product differentiation and service excellence will, however, remain the key differentiators among the delivery aggregators.
