USSM – Past, Present and Future Series

Introducing, The Past:

On July 31, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) travelled to the USSM’s Madison Mine Site in Fredericktown, MO to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Superfund Redevelopment Initiative (SRI).? The EPA launched the SRI in 1999 with the goal of returning formerly contaminated lands to long-term sustainable and productive reuse for communities across the country.? Over the past 25 years, hundreds of formerly contaminated sites have been transformed into hubs of economic, recreational or residential activity.?

USSM’s early remediation efforts aligned perfectly with the SRI initiatives of creating long-term, sustainable economic hubs through our innovative approach of repurposing old mine tailings into a commercially viable mixed metal concentrate product.? As the project has progressed over the past 5-years, USSM is now at the forefront of establishing a more robust and resilient supply chain for high-capacity batteries, and the next phase of USSM’s work will significantly expand the supply of available battery grade products and on-shore an essential link in the clean energy supply chain.
