Using Wix For Your Business Website? Please Don't.

Our audience partner landed a very large marketing client last week. Roughly 90% of their business relies on Google Adwords/Facebook Ad campaigns to generate inbound calls and leads. Upon initial overview, the website and campaign had a few issues, but nothing major, however, the client was not getting the results they required, even after going through 3 seperate marketing agencies within 2 years.

The kicker: their site was built by Wix.

To be clear, we’ve had smaller clients use Wix before and helped them with conversion optimization and some search optimization.

In the case of this client, in a competitive industry, our team combed over their data for the last 12 hours, collectively pulling our hair out because Wix one of the most useless platforms I’ve ever utilized in regards to marketing. This is what happened in the last 12 hours:

• Even though our client has the premium, most expensive Wix package, the support agent we called has 'never heard of Google Adwords'.
• Wix does not support goal and event tracking in analytics.
• Wix doesn’t even allow you to add custom Javascript or other frontend code needed for more sophisticated optimization.
• Wix doesn’t support or integrate with 99.9% of software/tracking/tools you’ll NEED for a high end PPC/SEO campaigns; your CRM, Salesforce, Zapier- no chance.

We are also implementing a comprehensive SEO campaign- that’s when it even gets worse. Wix uses Ajax for most of their web development code. Google is not a fan of Ajax. You can’t change image filenames. You can’t add breadcrumbs. You can’t add parent pages. No custom scripts, no file uploads, nothing.

Summary: All in all, Wix sites are great if you want to "just have a website". However, "just having a website" doesn't cut it in the modern world of competitive digital marketing.
