Using TigerGraph to Solve Mental Health Accessibility

Earlier this year, TigerGraph challenged developers to unlock their passions and creativity for solving problems that matter most to them and show the world through diverse submissions using graph technology in the Graph For All Million Dollar Challenge.

Grand prize winners, Ashwin Kumar and Veena Kumar built Mental Health Hero – a graph-based approach to solving the prevalence of untreated mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. The team outlined their use of graph technology that led to their winning submission:

“We used Tigergraph to build a "Patient 360" view of a potential mental healthcare patient using multiple modalities like social media sentiment, therapy session adherence, and written entries. Then we leveraged similarity algorithms to recommend the appropriate care based on the outcomes of other patients with similar behaviors.” -Mental Health Hero Team.

You can try a live demo of the project here.

“We used graph databases for the first time and were blown away. Specifically, we used TigerGraph's graph solution including GSQL, and React + Javascript for creating our front-end. We built something that we're passionate about - a tool to help alleviate mental health suffering around the world. Professionally, it allowed us to showcase how we can learn new technologies and use them to solve important problems” - Ashwin Kumar

The team hopes to continue working with Mental Health hero and find a way to get it into production. They plan to continue making improvements to the front-end user experience for public health professionals, as well as experiment with TigerGraph’s ML workbench to better help patients find relevant care.?

Congratulations Ashwin and Veena, kudos to you for using your skills for the greater good.
