Using Story to Focus Your Customer's Attention on Your Ads and Offers

Brands across the nation have replaced traditional content creation strategies with story-focused frameworks like StoryBrand and C.A.R—and some have seen a drastic monetary benefit from the switch.?
But how do stories come into play with a behavioral psychology marketing strategy?
We’ve talked in the past about the effectiveness of empathy in marketing. However, there’s something you may suffer from that could be keeping your business from building a connection with your customers.?
?It’s called the empathy delusion.
In a study from 2019 , researchers had 199 marketing executives complete an empathy psychometric test to evaluate how well they really know their customers. The results were shocking. Only 30% of marketers were able to accurately identify how their customers think and feel.?
If you suffer from the empathy delusion, it doesn’t matter how proficient you are with storytelling. Your campaigns will fail to provide an ROI. Worse yet, you could waste hours and huge sums of money trying to tweak your content without ever recognizing the real reason your campaign fell flat.
The tricky part of the empathy delusion is that people who suffer from it don’t realize they have it. So what’s the cure? The only way to overcome it and to establish real empathy with your customers is to study the way they think.
