Topic 4 A Methodical Driving Behavior, Journey Through the IPSGA System

At Business-Risk Consulting, our #Defensive #RoadSafety #DriverTraining program is founded on a internationally recognized principles encapsulated in one acronym: IPSGA.

The approach, which stands for Information, Position, Speed, Gear, and Acceleration, is a five-phase system promoting safety, efficiency, and control on the road.

IPSGA is a system of vehicle control split into the following:

  1. Information: This is the cornerstone of safe driving, involving an ongoing process of absorbing information(close and far) from the environment and effectively communicating with other road users.

This information includes signals such as direction indicators, headlamp flashes, and horn use. The process involves both receiving and giving information continuously as you navigate your journey.

  1. Position: An optimal position on the road enhances safety, visibility, and facilitates correct routing. Before moving your vehicle, it's imperative to check your mirrors and blind spots on both sides to ensure you're not moving into the path of another vehicle.
  2. Speed: This phase involves adjusting your speed to the specific conditions and potential hazards you're approaching. You should always be able to stop safely within the distance you can see to be clear on your side of the road. This control of speed can be attained through explicit braking or engine braking.
  3. Gear: Selecting the appropriate gear maximizes vehicle control as you navigate potential hazards. Moreover, choosing the correct gear in a single shift can reduce wear on your brake pads and discs.
  4. Acceleration: The final phase of the IPSGA system involves safely accelerating to clear any hazards and proceed with your journey, always bearing in mind the prevailing traffic conditions.

This system should be continuously applied and adapted to any driving situation you encounter on the road.

Embracing and applying the IPSGA principles fosters #awareness and #confidence, contributing to drivers' behavioral learning during practical on-road, in-traffic exercises.

Our guided coaching methodology supports this learning process, reinforcing safe and responsible driving practices.

To ensure our training's effectiveness, we use a skills and evaluation assessment sheet for each driver who participates in our course. This comprehensive evaluation enables us to monitor progress and validate continuing education throughout our 3-day driving training program.

In pursuit of excellence, we align our quality education process with RoSPA's quality assurance standards, ensuring the best practices in terms of course material and delivery. By promoting a methodical approach to driving, we strive to contribute to safer drivers on safer roads for a safer world.
