Using Data to Lose 16.6 lbs
Happy to announce that I have lost 16.6 pounds in 24 days. All because of data!
No, I am not on some fad diet. I definitely changed my diet and exercise routine, but mostly I have just been monitoring my data from what I eat through Lifesum (this got me to start intermittent fasting), which I now track using Life Fasting Tracker, monitoring my weight daily with Renpho (helped me understand my weight), and improving my workouts with Fitbod (got me excited to lift weights).
People forget that you cannot manage what you don’t measure. The first step to making any major change and sticking with it is by keeping track of the data along the way.
Not only do I practice this in my day to day work at Effin Amazing, but it is also what I have done with my career, my marriage, my kids and now my diet.
I have always felt like I can accomplish anything.
With the data I have and the plan I set I can do anything I want. Now, not everything is possible. Like I am not gonna become a professional athlete. That is just not possible based upon a host of factors, and I have plenty of data to support this, lol.
However, I can accomplish all of my goals as I set realistic targets, measure my progress and then adjust to take in realities.
As an example, I want to spend more time with my family than I do with my work. I am able to accomplish this goal as I track my time at work using Harvest, my computer time using RescueTime and can measure the other hours in the day since I am not an idiot. This has helped me optimize my life to ensure I am there for my family. I won’t lie, there are times where I barely see my family for a week or two, but I have been able understand this better since I can measure everything.
To get me out of the office/work and back to my kids I can simply look at harvest and rescuetime, see what I spend most of my time doing at work/computer and then hire for whatever will take that off my plate. And voilà, I am back to spending more time with my family than I do work.
These things said I do understand I am a data nerd. I take measurement to the extreme, ask Meredith DiGeorge about my data and testing antics. She will be the first to get annoyed with how I am testing her, or the kids. Everything in life is an experiment, I just want to know if variation A or variation B has a better result.
This may not be how you are naturally, but with just a little effort, and about $100 in apps to track your data you can lose 15 lbs too ??

5 年Awesome! Congrats! I have also tackled weight loss and being the healthiest me utilizing technology and data. I use Apple watch combined with My Fitness Pal app and an arboleaf scale and have implemented intermittent fasting, a caloric deficit (I eat healthy for the most part, but my diet isn't restrictive other than calorie intake), and regular HIIT training - mostly weightlifting and 30 minutes of boxing in my home gym (and also playing Creed on Oculus Quest). I just updated my super detailed nerd spreadsheet with all the data and I'm down 35 lbs in 70 days and have gained of 7.49 lbs of muscle. Most importantly my metabolic age and body fat % is down and I feel great!?
