Using ChatGPT to summarize organizational change philosophies ***
I have found academia.edu to be a great source for academic articles, especially for people without access to an academic research library.? What is most useful for me is their backend AI that recommends additional articles based on what I have downloaded in the past.? Because the academia.edu articles have been uploaded by the article authors there is a delay between publication and the article being available for free downloading.? However, Google Scholar fills this gap with a citation search to see what new articles build on the earlier article.
?One article I that academia.edu recently recommended is “Managing organizational change: A philosophies of change approach” (Graetz & Smith, 2010) that discussed ten change philosophies that are employed by different organizational change models. This article hit me at the right time as I am working on ideas to discuss in the Adaptive Change Collab.? However, I found the article to be very dense with great information, so much so that I highlighted about half the article for later review and use.? Therefore, I decided to use my custom ChatGPT (“Organizational Effectiveness Coach”) to help focus on the critical parts.
?The benefit of using my “Organizational Effectiveness Coach” comes from the additional training content with new ways of thinking about organizations, leadership, and change that shifts the AI toward thinking about New Era Organizations for the post-industrial era. This use of the custom ChatGPT allowed me to take the complex content in an article and not only summarize it but also run it through a filter of new ways of thinking and analyze it by running a series of questions that build on each other. You can see below how the dialogue progresses in the series of questions I asked, especially as my questions leverage the additional training content embedded in the custom ChatGPT. Without this additional training, the standard ChatGPT would default to the Industrial Era thinking that dominates content available for training AI. (Note that the text within parentheses below are my comments about the question.)
?Q1 – Please summarize the ten change philosophies in the attached document. (free download at academia.edu)
Q2 – What are some of the ways these ten change philosophies can be grouped around a common point of difference? Which change philosophies fall within each of these groups?
?
Q3 – Which of these change philosophies can be used in combination to support adaptive change in New Era Organizations?
?
Q4 – What are some of the challenges organizations may face when using these change philosophies in combination?
?
Q5 – Please summarize the key points in this article for using multiple change philosophies in combination. (A citation search in Google Scholar shows that no one has yet followed up on this since the article was published.)
?
Q6 – Which of these change philosophies support traditional, planned change initiatives?

?
Q7 – Please provide some insights on how to balance traditional approaches with more adaptive philosophies to address complex or uncertain environments. (This question is my response to the custom configuration that offered to provide additional insights that build on my earlier questions.)
Q8 – What do you need to know to provide a tailored strategy for applying these balanced approaches for my organization? (This question is also in response to the custom configuration that offers to bring the dialogue back to the user’s situation.)

This series of questions allowed an older academic article to be viewed within the context of today’s thinking about organizations, leadership, and change.? It also shows how interacting with the ChatGPT AI is more than asking a simple question but entering into a dialogue with the AI.

1 个月You asked which of the models can be used to support a planned change approach but I ask which models/theories/techniques can be used to support an emergent/agile approach to change as one of my standard questions. I also ask ChatGPT to identify how theories and models can be used to support an environment of multiple, simultaneous change as that is reflective of the circumstances in which I am working.
