Using Brands and ?? in App Metadata

  1. App Store: Using brands ?? in Title and Subtitle (visible fields). 1.1 Apple has an Appropriate usage rule. Real case: a client with all cars in the cab - Tesla. They make the name "Tesla taxi" and Apple blocks it. We recommend to put something like "Taxi for Tesla Fans" and Apple lets this name pass. Similar story: "IKEA home design" - you can't, but "Home Design for IKEA" - you can. Conclusion: if you want to use someone else's brand in your own title or sub-title, figure out how to use it with the preposition for. However, even now, it may not work that way. 1.2 All ? have a territory in which they are registered, and very often it is a certain country. What this means in practice: a brand can't be used in the US, but Apple doesn't mind if it's used in the Spanish (Mexico) locale, and we know that this locale covers the US too. Several times we put an absolutely exact copy of the name of a competitor from the USA in MX (or other cross-localizations) and ended up on the 2nd position in the USA for this keyword.
  2. Using other people's ? in the Keywords field. We do it all the time. See below for possible consequences. Google Play It's simple here. Using someone else's ? in a description or title on Google Play is almost always automatically cut off by Google, but you can try. Possible consequences of the use of ?? No consequences. This is the most common option when using someone else's ? in the keywords field in the AppStore. That is, you'll be indexed for keywords with that ? and Apple won't mind. Update Rejection. The most common reaction if you have inappropriate usage when placing someone else's ? in the title and subtitle fields in AppStore or in the title or description in Google Play. Nothing to worry about - just remove the keyword the store sent you a complaint about and submit the release again. Market Abuse. Most often comes because of complaints of copyright holders in the market. There are 2 options here: either you are given a certain period of time for correction and after that the application is removed from the store (not permanently, but only from the search), or you are removed from the search at once. In any case, after fixing, your app is returned to the store and in the worst case you lose a few days without installs.Application or account ban. This is often scare developers, but I have not yet met any example when they would be banned for using ? in metadata (if you have encountered this - please write me). Lack of indexing by ?. We've seen some brands get Apple to make sure that no apps other than those of the copyright holder are indexed by their ?. That is, you have someone else's ? in your keywords, no one claims you, but your app is not ranked for that word at all. So, in general, use ? wisely Note this article is taken from RadASO
