Using the best tricks of marketing to become a better person

We as marketers love to fantasise how this or the other campaign will get consumers to do X or Y, but rarely we take the same approach to our own lives. As professionals we're armed with a plethora of methodologies that help us create change and rally momentum. I look at the research industry as a big global think tank to figure out one of life's biggest mysteries - human behaviour.

Human behaviour is definitely a difficult subject, but I also don't believe in willpower nor unicorns. If you want to increase more traffic on your website, you follow a method to achieve that goal. Website traffic usually won't come from "I'll try better next time". Its all about getting down to the chain of events that have unfolded so far that lead to the current effect, and working to change those causes systematically one by one. In STATSIT, we've used the BJ Fogg's behavior change model for years and can highly recommend to anyone who wants to drive their personal behaviour change campaign.

The Fogg Behavior Model shows that three elements must converge at the same moment for a behavior to occur: Motivation, Ability, and Trigger. When a behavior does not occur, at least one of those three elements is missing.
