Stress is a common part of life, but when it builds up, it can feel overwhelming—like an endless weight pressing down. I see this often in my work with clients, and one of the most effective tools I use to help them regain control is affirmations.
Affirmations are more than just positive words—they are powerful tools that shift our mindset, rewire our thoughts, and create space for calm amidst chaos. When used with intention, they become a bridge from overwhelm to peace.
How Affirmations Help with Stress & Overwhelm
When stress builds, our thoughts often spiral into negativity: I can’t handle this, This is too much, I’m drowning in pressure. But when we introduce affirmations, we interrupt that cycle and replace it with something empowering: I am in control, I breathe in calm, I exhale stress, I have everything I need within me to navigate this moment.
The Three-Step Affirmation Process I Use with Clients
In my sessions, I guide clients through a simple, yet transformative process using affirmations to relieve stress and regain balance.
Step 1: Acknowledge & Release
Before we can shift our state, we must first acknowledge where we are. I encourage clients to pause, take a breath, and recognise their feelings without judgment. Then, we introduce an affirmation to begin the release process:
?? I give myself permission to let go of stress. ?? I release what no longer serves me. ?? I choose peace overpressure.
Step 2: Ground & Recenter
Once we’ve begun to let go, we focus on grounding. Stress often pulls us into the past or future—affirmations help bring us back to the present.
?? I am centered in this moment. ?? My breath anchors me to peace. ?? Balance flows through me effortlessly.
This stage is where clients often experience the biggest shift—they start to feel the weight lifting, their breath deepens, and clarity emerges.
Step 3: Empower & Restore
With stress released and balance restored, we move into the final stage: empowerment. Here, affirmations remind us that we are strong, capable, and resilient.
?? I am calm, capable, and in control. ?? Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. ?? I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way.
Bringing Affirmations into Daily Life
Affirmations aren’t just for structured sessions—they are tools you can use anytime. I encourage my clients to weave them into their daily routine:
? Say them in the mirror every morning. ? Write them down in a journal. ? Repeat them silently before bed. ? Use them as a grounding practice in stressful moments.
The key is repetition and belief—the more you affirm something, the more your subconscious begins to accept it as truth.
Final Thoughts
Stress and overwhelm may be part of life, but they don’t have to define us. By using affirmations, we can shift our mindset, reclaim our calm, and step into a place of resilience and strength.
In my work with clients, I’ve seen firsthand how this simple practice transforms not only stress levels but also confidence, clarity, and emotional well-being. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I invite you to try these affirmations today.
?? Breathe in calm. ?? Anchor in balance. ? Trust in your strength.
I hope this helps you to think about dealing with stress in a positive way. I also offer more therapeutic hypnotherapy with stoic principles to help you deal with the challenges that may well be holding you back from the life you are looking for.
