Alaska scientists and policymakers look to hydrogen as power source of the future

Alaska is exploring the potential of geologic hydrogen as a transformative energy source. At a recent workshop hosted by the?University of Alaska Fairbanks, leaders and experts discussed how hydrogen could support the state's energy needs, especially in remote areas disconnected from traditional power grids. With Alaska’s unique geology and the prospect of combining hydrogen with renewable energy, this approach could be pivotal for economic development and emissions reduction. As geologic hydrogen forms quickly and has vast potential reserves, experts see it as a game-changer for sustainable energy. “The challenge is great, but we’re on the edge of discovery,” said Mark Myers of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission.
