Users Turndown To Pay – More Than Half Of Twitter Blue's Earliest Subscribers Are Not Paying AnyMore

This is the start of May, and Twitter is facing user loss in the count of users turning down their paid blue tick "Twitter Blue" service. This count crosses over half of the original Twitter Blue customers. These aren't any hypothetical predictions – these are real numbers indeed.?

Elon Musk introduced this concept and subscription model of Twitter Blue in November 2022 (a span of seven months). Today, by the end of April 202, it has only 68,157 customers continuing to pay for Twitter Blue.?

This means nearly 81000 users who have opted for Twitter Blue service have cancelled their plans and changed their thoughts. That's nearly 54.5% of the total subscribed mass.

When a user opts for Twitter Blue, a user has to 8$ to Twitter to put an official verified blue tick against their Twitter Profile

Still, there are no comments by Twitter Authorities or Elon Musk on the stats and these independent reports. According to a report citing data collected by independent researcher Travis Brown, very few Twitter Blue subscribers will remain.

It is important to note that immediately after the launch of Twitter Blue, the company temporarily prohibited new signups for the platform for around one month because accounts were joining up for Blue, intending to impersonate prominent businesses on the network.

A previous investigation found that fifty percent of those who subscribe to Twitter's Blue service had less than one thousand followers on Twitter. Musk was using his influence to get Twitter to start charging all users on April 20.

In addition, 2,270 paid customers to Twitter Blue had no followers. Brown claims that there are 444,435 paid members of Twitter Blue. Less than one thousand people are followed by about half of all paid Twitter subscribers, totalling around 220,132 individuals.

The chaos that ensued on Twitter on April 20 was caused by Elon Musk's decision to erase all legacy ultimately verified accounts with blue check marks while allowing select celebrities to keep the status.

The extra features supplied by Musk, such as the blue verification checkmark and algorithm boost, seem to be the most exciting perks for users of Twitter Blue. This subscription service includes premium features like an edit tweet button.

With this update, Blue users will get a higher ranking in the For You feed and in answers to tweets. Many Twitter Blue customers, however, have gone public with their complaints to Musk about the service's "insufficient" expanded reach. Half of all Twitter Blue users in March had under a thousand followers.

If we look at those who have kept their Twitter Blue membership since last November, we find that around 1,951 have less than 10 followers. Twitter handed out free Twitter Blue memberships to users with at least 1 million followers since so few verified major accounts had signed up for the service under the prior verification procedure.

Travis Brown (Developer and Researcher) has kept tabs on Twitter Blue users for a while and has shared his results with Mashable. About 90% of subscribers are accounted for using Brown's methodology. Compared to other firm leaks, such as the one from the Washington Post we discussed before, Brown's numbers are very close to the official ones.

Brown said of the low-follower Twitter Blue users, "These individuals have collectively paid Elon nearly $100k and have gained under 8k followers."

To get the Blue Verified status on Twitter, users in India must pay a fee of Rs 900 per month, totalling Rs 9,400 per year.
