Facebook and the British company Cambridge Analytica are the subjects of a complaint in California for having obtained without permission information about 50 million users of the social network. The general complaint was filed Tuesday night in San Jose.
It comes from a Maryland resident, Lauren Price. This is the first lawsuit filed against Facebook for violating its privacy policy since the case was revealed last weekend by the New York Times and the British newspaper The Observer.
"Every Facebook user has an interest in this lawsuit and in respect of his right to privacy," said John Yanchunis, one of the complainant's lawyers, on Wednesday.
Accused Of Negligence
Lauren Price accuses Facebook and Cambridge Analytica of negligence and violation of California's unfair competition law.
She believes that the misuse of data violates Facebook's privacy policy, whereby the Menlo Park Group claims that the user's trust is "important" and undertakes not to share any information without permission or notice. .
"Our client saw a huge increase in political messages during the 2016 US presidential campaign on her Facebook page, which she had never seen before," said her lawyer. "She understands today that it was an attempt to influence her vote," he added.
Another complaint was filed in San Francisco by a shareholder because of the fall of the Facebook action since the revelation of the misappropriation of data. The market capitalization of the company created by Mark Zuckerberg has melted about $ 50 billion in two days.
