5 Ways to Let Go of the Useless in 2019

So… it’s a New Year. Personally, I find nothing more cathartic than a clean out -physically, virtually and metaphorically. Out with the useless, energy zapping stuff -and in with the new and good.
For the past hour I have been unsubscribing to e-mail lists. I can’t wait to see my new slimmed down inbox tomorrow morning. Yay! This got me thinking about other ways to ‘purge the useless’ for fewer distractions and more energy…
So, if you would like to live a peaceful, productive, pared down new year in which you can be present and purposeful, then Today’s Take Action Tip is to let go of the useless.
To follow are some ideas to consider:
- Sleep! – Research published in Science found that resting your weary head at night allows the brain’s synapses to shrink by nearly 20% and to weed out useless information and prepare you for another full day of receiving new input and learning new things. Without this reset, synapses become overloaded and burned out, like an electrical outlet with too many appliances plugged into it.
- Throw away 50 things – The kitchen junk drawer is a good starting point. And if an item of clothing doesn’t bring you joy or have a specific function, adios.
- Ditch the processed sugar products- Kiss any loitering Christmas candy goodbye. If it has more than 20 grams of carbohydrates or 5 grams of sugar you are getting a useless insulin spike that is just going to leave you feeling more tired post the sugar buzz.
- Try three days without social media – Why not binge on something useful like authors/experts teaching their books instead? – I see there’s a free 3 day free trial available now on Mentor box
- Make a mindset discard list – Useless limiting beliefs, bad habits, getting angry, multi-tasking etc.
